Music on the Green Summer Concert Series

This is a free weekly summer concert series that takes place in Saranac Lake on the Berkeley Green. Wednesday evenings get your dancing shoes on or set up your lawn chair to listen to the live musical ensembles that play from 7pm to 9pm. This summer's series will take place every week from June 26th through August 21st.

June 26th JigJam (from Ireland)

To kick off the 2019 season, we have JigJam coming all the way from Tullamore, Ireland.This lively musical group is comprised of Jamie McKeogh, Cathal Guinan, Daithi Melia, and Gavin Strappe who all rotate on instruments such as the banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and double bass. The quartet has received over twenty All-Ireland titles and has headlined at major music festivals including the world-renowned Milwaukee Irish Fest as well as toured all over the UK, parts of Europe, and US. The band's music style is described as a blend of traditional Irish music with Bluegrass and Americana into a new genre called 'I-Grass' (Irish influenced Bluegrass). July 3rd The Barefoot Movement

The next group up for a lively performance in Berkeley Green is The Barefoot Movement from Nashville, TN. This group brings to the stage heart, energy, and a down to earth feel that sets the intention for the audience to sit back, relax, take your shoes off, and stay a while. Each of the four band members plays an acoustic instrument to add to the Bluegrass feel, while together they crowd around a single microphone. The group has enjoyed almost non-stop touring together, including a trip to Burkina Faso, Africa where they were guests of the American Embassy. July 10th The Small Glories

Saranac Lake welcomes The Small Glories for the third week of this summer series. The Small Glories, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, are a brand new union between folk/roots artist Cara Luft and JD Edwards. The music that they bring to the stage focuses on their dynamic and powerful vocal blend and harmonies. They have recorded an album and toured together since their initial match up for Winnipeg's West End Cultural Centre's 25th Anniversary Concert. July 17th Hot Flannel

The next concert will feature a musical group from Newbury, VT known as Hot Flannel. Hot Flannel is a group of four that takes the stage to make soul-lifting music on the fiddle, cello, guitar, mandolin, and bass along with vocals in a style of newgrass music that is both cozy and cathartic. They've toured around New England bringing with them sounds and contrasts of voices, culture, and meaning. To find out more about this musical group check out their soundcloud website.

July 24th Funky Crustaceans

Week five means NOLA party music is here. The Funky Crustaceans play New Orleans favorites from the past and present. They will bring to the stage all the second line, funk, R&B, and country blues you need. To find out more about this musical group check out their website.

July 31st Durham County Poets

Durham County Poets will perform their feel good music for this week of the summer concert series. Comprised of five members, this group is from Chateauguay Valley, Quebec, Canada and features instruments like the bass, guitar, drums, and vocals. The group has collectively played in blues bands, gospel groups, rock, and country bands. Coming together to write and perform their own material, you will hear those distinct blues, folk, rock, country, and gospel influences in their lively and soulful music. August 7th Organ Donor feat. Ira Friedman

The talented musician Ira Friedman focuses on the piano and performs mainly jazz gigs. Ira has over 20 years of performing experience and will often share the stage with talented ensembles such as Organ Donor. August 14th Martha Scanlan & Jon Neufeld

The duo that will take the stage for the second to last concert in this series is sure to bring a harmonious and unique sound and performance. Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld started playing music together at Portland's Indie-Roots Festival Pickathon in 2010 and quickly went on to perform and record together. Their music tells a story as Jon effortlessly strokes a guitar to match with Martha's vocals and together they can add layers and depth while maintaining the vulnerability of everything happening in the moment. August 21st Russ Bailey Trio

To close out this summer's concert series Russ Bailey, Franz Pope, and Scott Renderer will show off their skills on the drums, guitar, and bass on stage as they perform a variety of blues numbers written by Bailey. This very stylistic trio spilts the hairs between the originals in blues and old stuff from the 40's and early 50's, mimicking early styles and adding some of their own flair. The trio comes together onstage to play their instruments at the highest level while blending together and creating a blues/rock work of art.
